The Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP) is a California state initiative that supports the voluntary transition of irrigated agricultural land to alternative uses that reduce reliance on overdrafted groundwater while delivering lasting benefits for farmers, communities, and ecosystems. Funded by the California Department of Conservation, the program provides financial incentives to landowners and supports regional, collaborative efforts that can improve water supply reliability, restore habitat, strengthen climate resilience, and create community spaces.
